We continue to invest in our campus facilities – £250 million by 2019 – so that all our students can maximise their talents today and into the future.
Our Fusion Building, which opened in 2016, embodies our vision of academic Fusion – creating the most stimulating, challenging and rewarding university experience in a world-class learning community.
This innovative academic building features collaborative work spaces and independent study areas, as well as flexible seminar rooms, lecture theatres, research spaces, breakout areas and outdoor terraces – empowering our students to learn and interact in modern, dynamic ways.
Learning facilities
We have a variety of learning spaces that are open to all of our students, where you can access support, a wide range of resources and find a place to study individually or as part of a group.
The Sir Michael Cobham Library is an award-winning building on Talbot Campus that has a wide collection of online, print and multimedia resources, as well as a Language Centre. For postgraduate students, there's also a dedicated study area on the first floor, with space for silent and group study. We also have a library in Bournemouth House on our Lansdowne Campus and an i-Floor - a paperless resource facility - in the Executive Business Centre (EBC).
All the BU Libraries have Wi-Fi and you will also find a variety of study spaces from silent study areas to group rooms, techno-booths and social learning spaces.
Our IT facilities are being constantly updated to ensure you have access to the latest technology throughout your time at BU. We have Open Access Centres on both campuses, which give you access to computers and printers 24-hours a day, 7 days a week.
Our Academic Building, which opened in September 2016, is a further example of our commitment to providing world-class learning facilities for all of our students. And it doesn't stop there. We are continuing to invest in campus facilities between now and 2019 to meet the changing needs of our staff and students.
Each of our Faculties has its own outstanding facilities available to students on relevant courses, with examples including our crime scene house and processor lab within the Faculty of Science & Technology; our music studios and TV studio within the Faculty of Media & Communication; our ambulance and clinics within the Faculty of Heath & Social Sciences; and The Retreat, a restaurant that provides training for students on hospitality courses within the Faculty of Management.
Libraries
We work hard to provide a comprehensive libraries and learning support service to all of our students. As well as our two libraries - The Sir Michael Cobham Library and Bournemouth House Library - we offer a wide range of online resources that you can access off campus, including e-books and e-journals that you can download to your personal devices.
Library & Learning Support has been awarded Matrix accreditation, the external quality standard for information, advice and guidance services. This highlights our on-going commitment to providing service excellence to the University community and continuous quality improvement of our services.
