Law & Criminology

Aberystwyth University’s Department of Law and Criminology is one of the oldest and most well established in the UK. We have made a major contribution to teaching and scholarship, and you will learn from academics who are leaders in their fields and are the authors of many key works used by practitioners today. The skills you will develop with us will enhance your employment prospects in both law and non-law careers. More of our graduates (91.3%) were in employment or further study 6 months after graduating than the national average (88.2%).

Aberystwyth is situated on the West Coast of Wales. It is one of the main commercial, administrative, social and shopping centres for the Mid-Wales area, which itself is predominantly rural and an important tourist region. Aberystwyth has a reputation as an international centre of learning, in addition to the University, it is also home to the National Library of Wales and a number of other educational and research institutions.

Aberystwyth University was founded in 1872, and is now spread between the town and two campus sites. The University at Aberystwyth has at present a total of around 7,500 students.

The Department of Law & Criminology was founded in 1901, it re-located to the Llanbadarn Centre in September 2013 following an extensive programme of re-furbishment. Our expert staff plus state-of-the-art teaching and IT facilities ensure that we meet student learning and professional development needs. The department has over 700 students on its main undergraduate (LLB and BA) and postgraduate (LLM, MPhil and PhD) degree schemes, while a number of students from other degree schemes also take courses in Law.
