“Studying at Bangor has helped me discover a greater part of myself, and the discovery continues. From speaking to others, they seem to share the same view as me: at Bangor, there is invariably something to discover about yourself.”
Founded in 1884, Bangor University is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the UK. Students from all over the UK and many countries worldwide choose to study at Bangor every year, creating a lively, multicultural community of over 11,000 students and more than 80 nationalities.
Outstanding support… A home from home…
Our excellence in teaching is combined with a reputation for outstanding support. Bangor is rated amongst the top 10 universities in the UK – and no.1 in Wales – for student satisfaction, with Law scoring 94% and Business 91% (National Student Survey 2014). Small class sizes enable students to form close-knit relationships with their lecturers, ensuring that can get guidance and advice when they need it.
To help make Bangor a home from home, our dedicated International Student Support Office is at hand to offer advice on all welfare-related matters, from visas to working in the UK.
‘The best university setting in the UK’…
Located in beautiful North Wales, Bangor boasts ‘the best university setting in the UK’ (The Independent’s A-Z of Universities and Higher Education Colleges). Situated between the sea and the Snowdonia mountain range, the area offers stunning beaches, beautiful walks and a wealth of outdoor pursuits.
Bangor itself is compact, convenient and affordable – the city is consistently ranked as one of the most economical places to study in the UK in various cost-of-living surveys, while university buildings, accommodation and the city centre are all within walking distance.
Bangor also has convenient links to many major UK cities, including Manchester (2 hour train journey) and London (3 hours train journey). The nearby town of Holyhead also offers daily sailings to and from Dublin in Ireland.
From Acoustic Guitars to Windsurfing…
Whatever your interest, Bangor has a society or club for you. All clubs and societies within Bangor’s Students’ Union are free to join, so you can keep up your favourite sport, indulge your lifelong passion or take up a new hobby alongside your university studies.
Student Volunteering Bangor, part of the Students’ Union, offers students the opportunity to work on volunteer projects within the local community – a worthwhile addition to any resumé.
Investment and development…
In recent years, investment in Bangor University has seen the opening of a new Students’ Union nightclub, Bangor Business School’s Management Centre for executive education, and the Environment Centre Wales building. But Bangor is a campus which is continuously developing and evolving. 2015 will see the opening of the Pontio building, a world-class centre for innovation in science, technology and the creative arts, which will house a theatre, cinema and exhibition spaces.
Work has recently commenced on a new £30 million student village, which will encompass an on-site café bar, shop, laundrette and sports and fitness facilities.
