Take a break and tour the UK's film locations

15th March 2018 Posted by: Hizrian Maladzan

THE life of a student can be stressful, especially when you are an international student in a foreign country.

A pile of assignments coming your way, you are still adapting to the new environment and you feel homesick in the midst of it all. Some peace surely needs to be found.

As an avid movie fan, I feel blessed to have studied in the UK with its rich choice of film locations people like me can go and visit. In between my university schedule and my time outside of class working on student events, I tried giving the places listed below a look.

So without further ado, here are some of my favourite UK locations for your future reference, whenever you need someplace to go in your free time.

Wollaton Hall and Park - Nottingham

Wollaton Hall is one of the most popular attractions in Nottingham.

It became the famous Wayne Manor in The Dark Knight Rises, the third entry of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy. This Elizabethan mansion is exquisite to look at in person, giving that calm feeling as you stroll around.

Meanwhile, you can also relieve your stress in the Wollaton Park near it with the beautiful natural scenery it has, especially on a sunny day.

University of Greenwich - London

If you are looking for a beautiful view which no other universities in London have while checking your bucket list of film locations, then look no further than the University of Greenwich.

It has been used countless times in popular films such as Thor: The Dark World and Starter For 10.

It is the perfect place to spend your spring break with some friends or family.

Speedy’s Cafe - London

A fan of the Sherlock TV series starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman? Then don't go to the actual 221B Baker Street to search for the famous apartment and Speedy’s Cafe appearing in the series.

Instead, go to 187 North Gower Street in Camden. There you can find the famous front door (though without the number 221B in it) and just beside it, the Speedy’s Cafe.

Edensor Village - Derbyshire

This may not be famous internationally as it only appeared in the famous Indonesian novel and film, Edensor by Andrea Hirata.

However, visiting the village may be worth your time as the scenery itself felt like it came straight out of a painting. This is the place to go if you want to find some quiet time, perhaps while evaluating university life, or just to find some therapeutic silence in the middle of your hectic schedule.

King’s Cross Station - London

A must visit place for any Harry Potter fan as you can find the only way to Hogwarts at platform 9 3/4. On that platform, you may find a cart where you can take a picture as a Hogwarts student.

The list may not include some of the more known places, but for me, these places have helped me rediscover some of the energy I needed to be re-charged during my busier times as an international student.

After all, having some fun could also fuel your success.
