20th November 2017 Posted by: Laura Kemp

AS a vibrant and cosmopolitan city, students are spoilt for choice when finding somewhere delicious to eat in Sydney. Whether a big bowl of steaming Asian noodles is your cup of tea, or a good old traditional Aussie meat pie is more your thing, there’s a whole plethora of tasty places to pick in between your classes. Here are some of the best cheap eats in the city that you simply can’t afford to miss…

Harry’s Café de Wheels

Dating back to the Depression years of the 1930s, Harry Edwards opened a caravan café to bring joy to Sydneysiders across the city with his delicious ‘pie ‘n’ peas’ in Woolloomooloo. Frequented by a whole host of A-listers, it’s not famous for no reason! Don’t miss out on the special, Harry’s Tiger, a beef pie served with peas, mash, and gravy on top. A delicious and affordable treat!

Mr Crackles

Situated on Oxford Street in the Darlinghurst area of Sydney, Mr Crackles was founded by two chefs on a mission to create the perfect crispy skin on meat. Famous for their tasty pork belly which is cooked over three days to produce epic crackling, you can’t miss the classic served with Vietnamese salad in a roll, or the roast lamb shoulder which is braised until it falls off the bone – pair with a salad and enjoy this cheap eat for lunch!

Burger Project

You can feel even better about eating here – not only is it cheap and delicious, but Burger Project prides itself on ethics too, caring about giving something back to the community and providing only the best ingredients. Tuck into the aptly named Bacon Project – grass fed beef, loads of bacon, cheese, onion, pickles, and secret sauce – or a tasty Magic Mushroom, with crumbed confit mushroom with all the trimmings. Whatever you pick, you won’t regret it!

Do Dee Paidang Thai Noodle Bar

With three locations across the city, you know these noodles are pretty popular, and you can pick the nearest one to your next class! Take a break from your studies with this authentic Thai cuisine, and don’t miss the barbecue, crispy roasted pork with rice or one of the spicy soups with fresh vegetables or prawns. They serve big portions, so bring your appetite!

Friggitoria

Labelling itself as Italian street food, this eatery in Kings Cross won’t disappoint. Try the crispy arancini, filled with Bolognese and peas or the antipasto board to start, full of salami, prosciutto, cheese, vegetables and bread. Moving onto the main, head straight for the pasta bar where you can design your own dish – choose from incredible sauces like marinara with crab, or truffle, sausage, and mushroom, and a range of types of pasta. With great prices too, you need to visit this place as soon as you can.
