Bournemouth

Bournemouth is one of the top destinations for international students and has some of the best beaches in the UK. We’ve got plenty to do including lively nightlife, a thriving arts scene, and outstanding natural beauty. Bournemouth is home to many festivals and events throughout the year.

Bournemouth is the furthest easterly point of the Jurassic Coast, England’s first Natural World Heritage site, which spans 95 miles of unspoilt countryside of exceptional natural beauty and historic geology.

With the scenic coastline and New Forest National Park right on our doorstep, there is plenty to explore in the surrounding area.

We are only two hours from London and have easy access to Europe.

Nightlife: Bournemouth is buzzing with students, being a town with two universities. It’s filled with great clubs with student nights most nights of the week

Shopping: Being a student on a budget, you can pretty much live a lavish lifestyle, as there are great bargains to be had when it comes to shopping in Bournemouth!

Eating out: Bournemouth offers a great variety of venues when it comes to eating out. With over 500 restaurants, there is great cuisine diversity, covering British to Mediterranean, Caribbean and Asian, meaning it’s easy to find food locally to suit any palette.

Arts and Culture: Bournemouth is a vibrant community, where you can participate and immerse yourself in the arts. There are many venues to visit, as well as events and festivals in alternative spaces throughout the town.

Religion: There are many places of worship which cater for the various religions that make up Bournemouth’s identity. From the Churches to the Mosques to the Synagogues, these places are often open to anyone who wants to take some time to reflect or worship and not just inclusive to that religion.

AUB shares a chaplaincy with Bournemouth University and this is available to be used by all faiths. If you feel like talking to a Chaplain, Bill Merrington, the Senior Chaplain, is happy to be contacted.

Sport: Bournemouth has a range of sporting activities that cater for all abilities and requirements:

You’ve got to take advantage of our location, so naturally, water sports are big down here! Taking up surf lessons is a great way to learn a new skill as well as meeting other people.

Surf lessons are available in both Bournemouth and Boscombe and run all year round and offer classes from basics to the advanced. If you don’t have the equipment, then there are shops that you can buy or hire the gear from.

Kite surfing and Paddleboarding are also becoming really popular. For the really daring amongst you, you can go Coasteering (jumping off cliffs into the sea – fully supervised of course!)
