MA International Politics of the Internet

MA International Politics of the Internet

The International Politics of the Internet Masters is your opportunity to study one of the most significant and dynamic issues within international politics today. You will analyse the ways in which the Internet, digital technology and multiple media platforms shape and influence world economies, societies and politics.

Based in the Department of International Politics, in choosing the International Politics of the Internet Masters you will be able to tailor your studies to suit your interests by selecting modules from a range of other departments in the University. In doing so, you will gain a unique multi-disciplinary perspective on the political implications of modern communications and information movement. You will also conduct your own research and contribute to the continuing academic dialogue by writing your dissertation in the third semester.

In addition to mastering your chosen subjects, you will be pushed to improve your general academic practices, your research and analysis skills and your personal awareness. By doing this, your general employability will be greatly enhanced and you will be a highly desirable candidate for any job within private, public or government workplaces.

This course is available either through a specialist route or as research training.

The Specialist (S) pathway provides the opportunities for students to pursue advanced, subject-specific study in their chosen area of the discipline. Students following this pathway take the Departmental core module, two modules from a bespoke basket of degree scheme related options and three further modules from any offered by the Department (or two departmental modules and one Masters module offered elsewhere in the University), along with the dissertation.

The Research Training (RT) pathway is particularly useful for students who have a first degree in Politics/International Relations and who are either planning to undertake a PhD or envisage a career in social science research. Students following the RT pathway take the Departmental core module, a suite of research training modules, one module from a bespoke basket of degree scheme related options and one free choice module, either from within the Department or University-wide. The RT pathway also culminates in a dissertation.
