STAND-UP comics are very brave people: whilst they stand in the spotlight onstage, we as an audience go along for a fun evening and dare them to make us laugh. Comics can be funny for a number of reasons: they might tell personal stories, they might face down hecklers or they might even improvise to impress an audience. But have you ever wondered how much of their comic act is an act, and how much is their real personality? In this video, Dr Oliver Double, Senior Lecturer at the University of Kent, discusses the idea of stage persona in stand-up comedy and variety theatre.
