WATCH THIS: Michelle Obama's Commencement Speech for City College New York, 2016

5th October 2016 Posted by: Francesca Turauskis

MICHELLE Obama might be best known as First Lady for the 44th president of the United States, but her career and the accolades she holds are even more impressive. No stranger to higher education, she gained her undergraduate degree at Princeton in 1985 and went on to gain her law degree from Harvard three years later. She has since gone on to work for the law firm Sidley & Austin, as assistant to the Chicago Mayor, and as the Associate Dean of Student Services at the University of Chicago (to name just a few roles!). This impressive resume has made her a very popular guest speaker at graduations across America – not bad considering she was once told she was setting her sights “too high.”

After Donald Trump's presidential inauguration on 20th January next year, Michelle Obama will no longer be the First Lady of the United States, but she will continue to inspire future generations. Her final commencement speech as First Lady was for the New York City College, where she was also made an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters.
