Latest Film Reviews - Suicide Squad, Bad Moms and more!

30th August 2016 Posted by: Safia Yallaoui

Welcome to our new monthly review of the latest blockbusters. At the end of each month we'll tell you what we thought about some of the most recent films to grace the big screen. This month we start off by reviewing the controversial Suicide Squad...

Suicide Squad

Rating 4/5

Worldwide Box Office $572,683,335

For someone who hasn't read the comic book it was easy to grasp the story of the Suicide Squad, a team of somewhat psychotic but likeable villains who are thrown together to help the US army defeat the evil Enchantress. As expected Will Smith and Margot Robbie were featured the most and were the most captivating of all of the characters. Some characters were redundant because they were underused, including the brother of the Enchantress, Captain Boomerang and Killer Croc, but luckily the explosive action-packed finale didn't disappoint.

Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates

Rating 3/5

Worldwide Box Office $64,220,577

Two brothers, Mike and Dave Stangle, ruin every family event that they go to so they promise to bring respectable dates to their sister's wedding to keep themselves in check. Needless to say it doesn't go to plan and they end up with 'the twins from the shining' who are even better at gate crashing parties than they are. Adam DeVine and Aubrey Plaza shine in this crude comedy and it's rife with bad language and innuendos. It could have been funnier at times but it does leave your mouth gaping at the hilarious and risqué sexual scenes.

The BFG

Rating 3/5

Worldwide Box Office $141,752,632

Directed by Steven Spielberg you'd expect this film to be a spectacular event, but unfortunately it falls short. The CGI is superb and there are some magical scenes which save this movie, but the film is too slow to start and you have to wait a long time for something exciting to happen. I'm sure children will absolutely love it, but for an adult it doesn't keep you on your toes because it's too dialogue heavy between Sophie and the BFG. Mark Rylance who plays the BFG is great and Ruby Barnhill does a good job in her acting debut as Sophie, but the film just needed a little more oomph!

Bad Moms

Rating 4/5

Worldwide Box Office $124,067,068

Mila Kunis stars in this fabulous girly comedy about three mums (or moms in American) who get sick of trying to be perfect and make it their mission to do all the things mums shouldn't do. Cue the partying until the wee hours of the morning, 'sexcapades', not turning up for work, refusing to cook for the kids and the list goes on. It was highly entertaining, which was to be expected as it was made by the same set of geniuses who produced The Hangover. The plot was a little predictable but it was a fun watch and a great 'good against evil' story that warms the heart. Hilariously raunchy in places, but not too graphic. I'm sure mums everywhere will thoroughly enjoy this one.
