Latest Film Reviews Bridget Jones, Sausage Party and more!

30th September 2016 Posted by: Safia Yallaoui

Welcome to the second installment of our new monthly feature where we review the latest films just for you! Bridget Jones has been the most anticipated film of the summer, especially for the ladies. Check out what I thought about it as well as some of the other big films of the last month...

Bridget Jones's Baby

Rating 5/5

Worldwide Box Office $85,606,573

Exactly what I expected from this film, it’s funny, feel-good and charming. The third film in the Bridget Jones series has stayed true to its roots and kept its loyal fanbase thanks to keeping the majority of the main actors and actresses, and the same sense of humour. Bridget is celebrating her 43rd birthday when she realises she’s a ‘spinster’, with no love life or children. But she ends up meeting a handsome American love guru, and reuniting with Mr Darcy, so before she knows it she’s knocked up and not sure who’s the father. It was great to see Renee Zellweger back as the Bridget we know and love, funnier and more akward than ever. There are a few twists in this film and it takes you on an emotional rollercoaster through Bridget’s life decisions and antics. Not just one for the ladies, everyone should and can enjoy this raunchy comedy.

Sausage Party

Rating 3/5

Worldwide Box Office $124,868,248

Sadistic, crude and very rude, this is the best way I can describe Sausage Party (pictured above) and that's exactly what the writers would have wanted. It accomplished what it set out to be, absolutely insane and hard to forget. Talking food goes on a rampage against 'the gods' aka humans once they find out that leaving the supermarket in a trolly means certain death when they are eaten. It's a cartoon but nowhere near suitable for children, it's an adult film with strong drug scenes, sex, swearing and violence. Seth Rogan and Jonah Hill star as two of the main voices in the film and the humour is typical of the producer's other comedies like Pineapple Express. It's brand of humour is an acquired taste and many scenes leave you in shock.

Cafe Society

Rating 3/5

Worldwide Box Office $11,023,594

Cafe Society is a romantic comedy set in 1930's Hollywood, about a young man who moves from New York to LA to get a job with his Uncle, the powerful head of a successful film company. The young man, Bobby Dorfman, gets himself into a love triangle, but his quirky charm and wit are what makes the movie unique and this is all thanks to Jesse Eisenberg who was the perfect person to play the character. It also stars Kristen Stewart, Steve Carell and Blake Lively. On the downside there was no climactic scene at the end, and the story was predictable at times. However it could be argued this is what director Woody Allen was going for as it's obvious the film doesn't take itself seriously at all! Don't watch this with high expectations, just if you want a bit of a laugh and to be immersed in the classic glamour of Hollywood.

Hell or High Water

Rating 3/5

Worldwide Box Office $25,162,491

Starring Chris Pine, this modern Western is intriguing and comes with a few unexpected twists. The story is about two brothers who rob banks and come from a poor neighbourhood in Texas. They are likeable characters, especially Pine's as he's a little more relatable due to his innocence and softness in comparison to his brother, and he tries to build inheritance money for his children. The sheriff in town is hot on their tracks and catches up to them in the end as expected, finishing with some pretty explosive scenes. The first half of the film is slow, but the latter half is full of suspense to keep you on your toes and makes you more emotionally invested in the lives of the characters. It's different to any other film out at the moment.
