A business course for ever-widening horizons

20th April 2018 Posted by: Duncan Chisholm - Editor

THE most successful business careers in the future will be for those who thrive in uncertainty.

So how are Bishop Grosseteste University, a TEF Gold-rated university, preparing their business undergraduates for the endless opportunities a constantly changing business landscape could bring?

We're being constantly reminded that the world is growing more connected, and often so quickly that we may not even notice it going on around us.

So while businesses are trying to keep the pace, they're demanding completely new skillsets from their graduates - so students are drawn into the race, too.

When you're choosing a business course, one way to keep up is to make sure you're building a skill set which will give you the opportunity to go far in your career.

Innovating from the start

The BA (Hons) Business course at Bishop Grosseteste University aims to equip students with the most fundamental skills they'll need to get on in what has become an environment where the only certainty is the unexpected.

Year 1 of the course introduces students to innovation and design thinking - helping students to develop their generation of ideas so that they are equipped to take part in the sort of creativity in a business context which could lead to the growth of the organisations they work for.

In a changing environment, students who have the skills to put new ideas in place for the benefit of their organisation could well find themselves being central to success in growing businesses they work for.

Exploring Entrepreneurship

"Entrepreneurship can be taught, and you will learn through doing."

Bishop Grosseteste says that entrepreneurship is not simply about luck and mysterious talent, but that it is actually a skill set which can be taught  - and practice makes perfect.

From Year 1 BA (Hons) Business students will learn the skills they need to put their new ideas into action.

Again, employing graduates who have skills which could lead to growth is among the top priorities for any business going anywhere exciting in the future.

But students who have the ability and the skill set to take action could also find themselves setting up their own company. They might just be able to emulate their business heroes with the right skills and the drive to put their ideas into action.
