5 Best Places to Study in Europe in English

31st July 2016 Posted by: Tom Hagues

EUROPEAN education systems are, and always have been, quite prestigious and held in high regard all around the globe. There are a number of reasons why they’re so good – it might have something to do with that some of the universities are centuries old. But for those who don’t speak the language of the country they’re learning in, access to this great education system is somewhat hindered. Here’s a guide that rounds up some of the best courses in Europe that are taught in English (that aren't in the UK, that is!).

1. University of Freiburg, Germany

There aren’t many universities in Germany that offer English language bachelor degree programs, but this one does. It’s a good university, too, usually ranked around the 120 mark (for the world ranking) and it’s held in high regard in Germany. It’s got a range of English language MAs on offer too, so students can study for a BA or BSc and stick around for their further education at the same place.

2. University of WrocÅ?aw, Poland

Poland has a massive English-speaking culture when it comes to education systems, and the country has a good reputation for affordable dentistry and medical courses too. The University of WrocÅ?aw has a staggering amount of full time bachelor courses taught in English. From Empirical and Theoretical Linguistics to Chemistry, there’s something for anyone at this school.

3. Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain

Spain might be a first choice for some students looking to study in sunshine with access to great food, wine and culture, and frankly we don’t blame them. While it’s a bit tricky finding a wide range of English language courses in Spain, UAB seems to have a few, although they focus on economic subject matters like International Business and Understanding the European Economy. But, if that floats your boat and you love a glass of Rioja or two, this might be the one for you.

4. Venice International University, Italy

The clue is in the title here – the international nature of this institution can’t go unnoticed. The Globalization program is particularly noteworthy, offering English language courses on a whole range of different subjects that stick to a key theme. Economics, Management and Digital Technologies might appeal to some visitors, but the Italy course seems to be very interesting – it guides students through Venetian and Italian life, culture, art and history. Sounds pretty well-rounded, doesn’t it?

5. University of Oslo, Norway

Shock, horror: Norway offers more English-language courses than you can shake a well-educated stick at. It comes as no surprise to us, though, and you know you’ll be in safe hands too, because Norway has one of the best education systems in the world. Political Science, Anthropology and Medicine are all offered here, but we think the Scandinavian Studies, Celtic Studies, Linguistics and Textual Sciences sounds very interesting indeed.
