10 Amazing Scholarships For Amazing Women

THERE is a wide range of scholarships available to female students from all over the globe. These come in various form, from monetary bursaries to mentorship schemes and internship opportunities.

The scholarships aimed specifically at women are often designed to encourage and support women with outstanding academic backgrounds to become leaders in their field, particularly in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects.

Scholarships are available to women at all levels of further study, from prospective undergraduate students to those undertaking post-doctoral research programmes. In this article, we provide an overview of the need-to-know information for a selection of scholarships on offer to women around the world.

1. Fondation Rainbow Bridge MBA, France

How much? Two scholarships of €20,000 ($28,000) per year are available.

Who qualifies? High-calibre women from Asian or African countries affected by natural disasters, drought or famine who have been admitted to the HEC School of Management MBA program.

Where? France.

How do I apply? Submit a 1,500-word essay on why you should receive the award and what your goals are after the MBA program, as well as a financial statement.

2. Nestle MBA Scholarship for Women, Switzerland

How much? CHF 25,000 ($28,500).

Who qualifies? Women with a degree and at least three years of work experience who have applied to the full-time MBA program at IMD Business School in Lausanne, Switzerland, and who demonstrate financial need can apply for this scholarship. Preference will be given to candidates from developing countries.

Where? Switzerland.

How do I apply? Submit an online application form with supporting documents. If you pass the first step, may be followed by an assessment day on the campus.

3. Schlumberger Foundation Faculty of the Future Fellowship, worldwide

How much? Up to $50,000 per person per year.

Who qualifies? Women from countries with developing or emerging economies planning to undertake a PhD or post-doctoral program in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. Applicants must also be able to show a commitment to teaching.

Where? A host university/research institution abroad.

How do I apply? Submit an online application form.

4. British Federation of Women Graduates: Kathleen Hall Fellowship, UK

How much? Between £2,500 and £6,000 ($10,000).

Who qualifies? Women who have shown academic excellence and are in the last year of PhD research at a UK university.

Where? Any UK university.

How do I apply? Submit an application form by email and pay a £20 administration fee.

5. The Women in Engineering Programme, UK

How much? Full financial scholarship plus £15,000 ($25,000) living allowance and mentoring throughout their master's degree.

Who qualifies? UK and EU students registered on an engineering master's at Brunel University.

Where? Brunel University, UK.

How do I apply? Get in contact via email to ask for more information and be considered for the program.

6. Helen MacMillan Brown Bursaries, New Zealand

How much? Up to 10 bursaries of NZ$2,500 ($2,100) available annually.

Who qualifies? Female students (New Zealand residents or international students) at the University of Canterbury (New Zealand); acceptance will be based on school-leaving grades.

Where? University of Canterbury, New Zealand.

How do I apply? Submit an application via the website.

7. L’Oreal-UNESCO Fellowships for Women in Science, worldwide

How much? Varying amounts depending on your country. In the UK, five annual fellowships of €18,770 are awarded annually.

Who qualifies? Precise criteria vary from country to country, but generally the fellowships are for women studying at postgraduate level who are talented scientists with promising research projects.

Where? Worldwide.

How do I apply? Submissions should be made via the online application process.

8. The Girls Impact the World Film Festival, most countries worldwide

How much? Between $1,000 and $5,000 plus internship opportunities.

Who qualifies? High school and undergraduate college students with an interest in film.

Where? Worldwide.

How do I apply? Applicants must submit a short film (3-6 minutes) that focuses on issues affecting women and girls around the world.

9. Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship, worldwide

How much? Up to $10,000.

Who qualifies? Female computer science and technology students. The award is based on academic excellence, leadership, and impact on the community of women involved in technology.

Where? Worldwide.

How do I apply? Online application process.

10. American Association of University Women (AAUW) International Fellowships, USA

How much? Between $18,000 and $30,000 depending on degree level.

Who qualifies? Women studying graduate and postgraduate courses in the United States who are not US citizens. Award selection is based on academic performance and a demonstrable commitment to women.

Where? Accredited study institutions in the United States.

How do I apply? Applicants must submit and online application form and supporting documents.
